King William's College celebrates excellent GCSE/IGCSE results

King William’s College is celebrating an excellent set of GCSE/IGCSE results, with its 57 Upper Fifth (Year 11) students achieving an overall pass rate (9-4 or A*-C) of 87%, with 20% of grades at 9/8 or A* and 37% of grades at 9-7 or A*/A.

Despite the national raising of grade boundaries this year, two of our students – Daniel Shepherd and Tilly Neel – both achieved 9/8 or A* in 11 subjects, which is a fantastic achievement.

There has been yet more good news for the Middle Fifth (Year 10) who received their GCSE Religious Studies results. The year group – the largest in the school for many years – is on track for significant exam success next summer.

This follows the International Baccalaureate (IB) success of the Upper Sixth (Year 13) earlier in the summer. The IB exams were the first set of public exams the year group had ever sat and nine of these students achieved a remarkable 40 points or more.

Principal Joss Buchanan said: “Overall, our Upper Fifth has not had the easiest of journeys through the school – three times they were in lockdown when they were in the Upper Fourth and Lower Fifth – and they deserve enormous credit for having shown such commitment and resilience. I am delighted that their hard work has paid off with such a strong set of results. I would like to especially congratulate those students who were studying in their second language and those who joined us partway through the courses.

“It has been a uniquely challenging few years, but together with the IB results back in July, it has been a very successful summer.”
