GCSE success for Royal High School Bath students
Posted on 27th Aug 2024 in School News, GCSE, Exam resultsCongratulations to Royal High School Bath’s Year 11 GCSE cohort who have learned just how well their hard work and dedication to their studies has paid off. This sparky cohort of students have even managed to beat last year’s excellent results and can go on to study for A Levels or the school’s International Baccalaureate pathways with confidence.
The top mark of Grade 9 was achieved by 26% of students, with 67% Grades 7-9 and 91% Grades 5-9. 22 students achieved grades 9-7 across all of their results and 6 students kept the bar high and only achieved grades 8 and 9. Twins Kshama and Shreya’s results and future plans are symptomatic of those of the year group as a whole who value the choice and innovation offered by the Sixth Form. They are looking forward to joining Year 12, with one sister following the A Level pathway and studying English, Chemistry and Biology, and the other taking the IB Diploma route and studying Psychology, Biology and Philosophy at Higher Level as well as English, Maths and French at Standard Level alongside the Theory of Knowledge Course and her Extended Essay.
A significant number of students gained further success from the additional qualifications they have chosen to take as a result of their creativity and academic curiosity – a hallmark of the Royal High Sixth Form. Pupils have taken additional GCSE level awards including Further Maths, Level 2 EPQs, the Silver Arts Award and the New College of the Humanities Philosophy Certificate. Students from the School’s Aspire Group submitted their Level 2 EPQs on an eclectic range of subjects including; ‘The similarities between Ancient Greek and modern medicine’, ‘The effect of your online presence on your career’ and ‘Achievements of unsung black women in the Victorian era’. All these students gained an A* or A grade in this qualification which is highly regarded in preparing students for university study.
These excellent students are going on to study IB Diploma Programme, A Level STEM and A Level Arts subjects in Sixth Form and will continue Royal High School Bath, GDST’s strong academic reputation.
Acting Head, Mr Hadrian Briggs, said: “These results are testament to an exceptional year group who have responded to Senior School life with determination and good humour. I am extremely proud of the girls’ achievements in both the academic arena and in their contributions to the wider life of the school.
“These students are fully committed to our extra-curricular programmes in sport, music and the performing arts as well as challenging themselves through outdoor education opportunities such as Duke of Edinburgh and the Ten Tors. They have followed their intellectual and wider passions and interests to build very strong foundations on which to build their IB and A Level studies.”
