AI Sustainable Cities Project launches across Globeducate

Ai!" artificial intelligence programme and is actively transforming the way students engage with sustainability and urban planning through hands-on, technology-driven learning.
The project is designed to show how AI and IoT technologies can help students understand urban microclimates, ecosystems, and the impact of city planning on the environment. In phase one, all participating schools have received terrarium kits and a 3D city wall model, setting the foundation for an educational journey that encourages environmental literacy and critical thinking.
Abi, Year 9, Stonar School, Wiltshire, UK, started working on this project before Christmas and said: “It's fascinating to think about how smart buildings and AI-powered climate monitoring will be essential in the future. Even now looking at the stark contrast of extreme weather currently in the United States – arctic conditions on one coast and wildfires one the other – shows how urgent and important this is.”
The project is supported by advanced AI and IoT tools, introduces students to environmental science and technical skills across primary and secondary levels.
Activities such as building and maintaining terrariums and designing city models allow students to engage directly in ecosystem monitoring, sustainable urban design, and real-time environmental data collection.
This initiative incorporates advanced tools, such as Earth observation data, 3D printing, and AI powered environmental sensors, helping students link technology with sustainability education. “Programming in the AI Sustainable Cities project helps me turn ideas into smart solutions for a greener future,” explains Richard, Year 6, PASCAL Private Secondary School, Larnaka, Cyprus. “I am learning how technology can solve real-world environmental challenges.”
Daniel Jones, Chief Education Officer of Globeducate said: “The AI Sustainable Cities project is about more than just teaching students about technology— it’s about fostering a deeper understanding of sustainability and its critical role in shaping our future cities. By connecting urban planning with hands-on environmental monitoring, this initiative empowers students to see their communities as interconnected ecosystems. Through this programme, we’re nurturing a new generation that not only values sustainable practices but is equipped to make informed, impactful decisions for a resilient world.”
Project Leader and Space Centre Manager at PASCAL Education, Cyprus, Elpidoforos Anastasiou added: “Our aim is to create a lasting impact by embedding sustainability education into the curriculum in a way that is both interactive and informative. This project gives students the tools to understand and address real-world environmental challenges.”
With schools working to a timeline suitable for their own community, the project introduces new equipment and educational modules on a monthly basis, expanding students’ experience with cutting-edge technology in areas like data analysis and environmental monitoring.
By creating continuity in learning year-over-year, the Sustainable Cities initiative offers a pathway for Globeducate students to become environmentally conscious, tech-savvy problem solvers. With each phase, Globeducate schools move closer to developing a new generation equipped to tackle the sustainability challenges of tomorrow’s cities, part of the group mission to prepare each student to become a global citizen who can shape the world.
This initiative not only prepares students for future careers in science, technology, engineering, art, and maths (STEAM), but also encourages them to consider the interconnectedness of urban life and ecosystems as they grow into future city planners, engineers, and environmental advocates.
