Inspiring knowledgeable, enquiring and caring global citizens through excellence in education

Situated on a leafy campus in Bishop's Stortford, 10 minutes from London Stansted Airport, Hockerill is a leading UK school. It is a strong, caring community of 900 boys and girls (400 boarders and 500 day students) aged between 11 and 18. All five boarding houses are located within the campus.

Student outcomes are exceptional with results and university destinations comparing favourably to those of top independent schools. Around 75% of those attending UK universities go on to Russell Group destinations. The Sunday Times placed Hockerill fifth of all comprehensives, based on academic achievement, in its 2024 guide to the best schools in the country.

The College offers a rigorous and broad curriculum and is proud to be one of the largest state schools offering the prestigious International Baccalaureate Middle Years (MYP) and Diploma programmes. Hockerill has a twin focus on languages and music with all students studying two languages to GCSE from the extensive range of taught languages.

The main admission years are at ages 11 and 16, with a number of students also joining at ages 13 and 14. After completing the MYP, students move on to the GCSE curriculum prior to embarking on the IB Diploma programme in the Sixth Form.

A wide range of trips and exchanges embeds the College's international outlook and extends from language and cultural exchanges in Europe and Asia to skiing and sports tours through to biodiversity studies in Croatia and outreach programmes in Africa.

Outside of the classroom, the College's strong extra-curricular provision offers a wide range of clubs and opportunities, including sports teams, music ensembles and choirs, BMX, Combined Cadet Force (CCF) amongst others. There are some 100 clubs on offer and the programme changes each term. There is a full weekend programme for full boarders and many weekly and flexi boarders also opt to join in with the fun activities and trips.
